Invitation to Join AZG’s Practice Committee

Would you like to be in on the process of making choices about the AZG program? Practice Committee invites you to support our conversations about calendar, guest teachers and zendo events. You could note the topics that interest you when the agenda comes out and take the time to give a member some input OR better yet, you could attend meetings and be a part of the active conversation. Starting in the Fall we will be looking for a few people who can join Practice Committee as decision-makers beginning in 2026. Please consider seeing if your participation with Practice Committee is a good match to your interests and schedule.

From the bylaws:

Section 8.02 Practice Committee

The Practice Committee shall be comprised of the Head Teacher, the Zendo Manager (Tanto or Ino) and at least four (4) Members who have been Arcata Zen Group Members in good standing for at least two years and who have experience with Zen forms, teachings, and practices. Each such Member will serve a two-year term. Members will be selected so that there will always be at least two continuing Members on the Committee. New Members may self-nominate or be nominated and will be selected by the current committee. The list of proposed new Members shall be submitted to the Board of Directors who shall affirm their membership on the Committee. Duties shall include: making decisions about changes in the forms of our zen practice; setting the yearly schedule for the Head Teacher and visiting teachers, including sesshins; providing a forum for discussion of forms, teachings, and practices. The Practice Committee will inform the wider Sangha of changes being contemplated and include the Sangha in the discussion as appropriate. The Practice Committee will reach its decisions through consensus under the Consensus Protocol. The Practice Committee is responsible to the Board of Directors.
