Sangha Hike to Lyons Ranch
Saturday July 5, 8am - Noon
This hike, led by Micah, will be to Lyon's Ranch up Bald Hills Road. This is a 3.7 mile out-and-back trail in Redwood National Park. This trail takes you through a traditional oak savanna habitat that used to dominate the west coast prior to European colonization. The hike is moderately strenuous with a total elevation gain of ~450 ft. Approximate hiking time is 1.5-2 hours.
The area was a cattle and sheep ranch until the 1960s and is dominated by prairies with sweeping views of the vast Redwood Creek watershed. Micah will bring binoculars and a spotting scope to look for birds. We may have a chance to spot California condors!
Please meet at AZG at 7:45 am to carpool or be at the trailhead by 9 am. Bring water and a lunch for picnicking afterwards if you'd like. Contact us HERE to let Micah know you plan to attend.
Directions: North on Hwy 101 36.3 miles. Turn right on Bald Hills Road and go another 17 miles to the trailhead on the right. Drive time from Arcata to the trailhead is approximately 1 hour.
