How do I know if this is the right practice for me at this time? We are looking for a coordinator for this event.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Arcata Zen Group is looking for a small team to co-lead the co-ordination of our Sangha Support Net, a community of care that supports sangha members and their families during times of illness, loss, recovery, and other important life transitions, as well as celebrations such as Jukai, marriages, births, and house blessings. Volunteers may: Coordinate meals, rides, errands, or other short-term practical support. Help organize ceremonies and celebrations. Maintain a list of volunteers and the support they are able to offer. Serve as a point of contact for requests while helping ensure confidentiality. Meet occasionally with the team to coordinate and strengthen this practice of generosity. No one person is expected to do it all. We hope to build a team that shares these responsibilities together. <image:caption>The Zazenkai Coordinator plays an important role in supporting our sangha’s practice by helping organize and facilitate the smooth functioning of our day-long retreat. The coordinator serves as the primary point of contact before and during the day-long sit, working closely with the Teacher, Ino, Tenzo, Work Leader, and other volunteers as needed. Responsibilities include: Coordinating registration and participant communications. Ensuring schedules, announcements, and practice information are distributed in advance. Supporting the organization of oryoki meals when applicable. Coordinating volunteer roles such as Tenzo, servers, work leaders, and walk leaders. Helping prepare common areas before the sit. <image:caption>This past year the library team of Jimmy, Doris, and Elvira has diligently worked on maintaining our inventory, making improvements to indexing, and keeping everything organized. It is time to hand over the reins and Brad Jolliffe has stepped forward to take care of the library. The role of Librarian at AZG can be performed by an individual or as a team that is responsible for keeping the library selection organized and accessible. Library team members serve to preserve and expand the extensive collection of books passed on to us by our founder, Maylie Kushin Seisho. The library is an essential resource for the sangha’s continued study of the dharma. Stay tuned for an announcement regarding new library open hours. <image:title>Sangha News - Sangha Week at Green Gulch 2026 - October 21-25. Space is limited. Contact Beverly with questions or to reserve your spot.</image:title>
<image:caption>Arcata Zen Group is being welcomed as a Sangha affiliated with the Branching Streams of Suzuki Roshi to spend these special days at Green Gulch Farm Zen Center. For four nights, October 21-25, we will follow the daily schedule, participating in sangha life alongside Green Gulch students. Participants attend morning and evening meditation, eat meals with the students, and work 3½ hours daily; afternoons and evenings include free time and Dharma study. From the GGF website: “Green Gulch Farm Zen Center, also known as Green Dragon Temple (Soryu-ji), is a Buddhist practice center in the Japanese Soto Zen tradition offering training in Zen meditation and ordinary work. It is one of three centers that make up San Francisco Zen Center, which was founded by Shunryu Suzuki Roshi. Our effort at Green Gulch is to awaken in ourselves and the many people who come here the bodhisattva spirit, the spirit of kindness and realistic helpfulness. This is how we offer our understanding of Buddha’s Way. Green Gulch Farm is located in Marin County, just north of San Francisco, in a valley that opens out onto the Pacific Ocean. In addition to the temple program of zen and study, it includes an organic farm and garden, as well as a guest house and conference center.” This is a unique opportunity for the AZG Sangha to physically experience our connection with the broader Soto Zen community in California and it is a chance for the residents and leaders at GGF to witness the stable and steadfast practice of our small and remote sangha. Cost is $140 per person per night ($115 per person per night for those sharing a room). Scholarship funds may be available. Space is limited. Contact Beverly with questions or to reserve your spot.</image:caption>

The paperback edition of this book can be purchased here from the website of Northtown Books for $18. There may be used copies available from other sources as well. This is an open group that meets only on zoom (not in person). Anyone who reads this is welcome to attend any session.
